WIC - The WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program provides supplemental nutrition for pregnant, lactating, and postpartum women, as well as infants and children ages 1-5 yrs. old.  This is accomplished by providing supplemental food and education on the importance of a balanced diet.  Hopefully, this federally funded Nutrition Program can prevent many conditions, such as anemia, premature delivery and other problems associated with inadequate nutrition.

 

Pregnant women, infants and children up to five years old can apply for the program. (Income Guidelines) Program regulations require that everyone be evaluated according to medical, nutritional, and financial criteria to be eligible for the food supplements. (WIC is an equal opportunity program).

 

FCM - The FCM (Family Case Management) Program provides RN’s to case manage the needs of pregnant women and infants up to one year of age, in addition to those with medical or other high risk needs.  This program assists families with linkage to other resources and referrals to other agencies.  The RN also assists the parent with any parenting issues or problems they may be having, and to check the growth and development of the baby.

 

IMMUNIZATION CLINICS - Clinics are available to immunize children against the childhood diseases.  The Health Department has a clinic each month in Litchfield, Raymond, Nokomis and Hillsboro.  (Clinic Schedule) Special clinics are held in the schools for HBV and Td if indicated. 

 

LEAD SCREENING – Blood test done per fingerstick for children between the ages of one and six.  This is done routinely on those who have a medical card, children entering daycare, pre-k, or kindergarten or those who live in older homes.  All tests are done by appointment only.  The children’s physicians are notified of the results.

 

BREASTFEEDING COUNSELING – Prenatal breastfeeding classes taught by a registered nurse, specially trained in breastfeeding.  Individualized counseling is done postpartum by case managers/nurses, who are experienced in breastfeeding.  In home visits are offered postpartum if extra attention is needed. MPE - (Medical Presumptive Eligibility) provides pregnancy tests to medically confirm pregnancy so the client can apply for Transitional Assistance for Needy Families, which allows the woman to receive continuos prenatal care while IDPA determines eligibility.

 

TPS - The TPS (Teen Parent Services) Program provides assistance to pregnant teens and teen parents through linkages and services with other agencies and organizations that help them attain a high school diploma or GED.  This program is funded by DHS.

 

GENETICS - The Genetics Grant provides routine screening and referral of clients. Family history is obtained from clients and women having pregnancy tests.  Referrals are then made to geneticist affiliated with SIU School of Medicine.

 

KIDCARE - The KidCare Program offers health care coverage to pregnant women and children up to age 18.  It assists with payment of premiums of employer-sponsored or private insurance plans.  MCHD is an application agent and assists in completion the application and submitting it to the State of Illinois for review.

 

HEALTHWORKS - The Healthworks Program provides staff to collect medical data for children in DCFS case management.  The staff then works with a caseworker to develop a care plan and follow-up programs as needed.  This program works with foster parents in meeting all the foster child’s medical, mental and dental needs.

 

APORS – This program is developed by the State as an Adverse Pregnancy Outcome Reporting System.  This program provides follow-up contacts by registered nurses, who evaluate infants upon discharge from High Risk Neonatal Centers.  The high risk children are eligible until the age of two and there are no income requirements.

 

FAMILY PLANNING – A representative of Illinois Valley Family Planning is housed at the Health Department and is available daily for information and intake.  Referrals will be made as needed.

 

CAR SEAT PROGRAM – The Montgomery County Health Department offers a CHILD SAFETY SEAT class on the 3rd Friday of every month.  They also have new car seats, which are available at no cost for those who are income eligible.  The class is instructed by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.  If you are interested in the class, or if you would like to know if your seat is properly installed, call 532-2186, for an appointment.  For more information visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
