Montgomery County Health Department Hugh Satterlee The Montgomery County Health Department (MCHD) is designated by the Illinois Department of Public Health as a certified local public health district in accordance with the Illinois Compiled Statutes, 55ILCS5/5-25012. It is managed by an eight-member Board of Health who is appointed by the Chairman of the Montgomery County Board. Each appointed member serves without compensation, and consists of at least two Board Certified Physicians, one Dentist, who are all licensed by the State of Illinois and who reside in Montgomery County. In addition, one member of the County Board is appointed to serve with all remaining members chosen to serve from the community at large. The role of the Local County Health Department is the prevention of communicable or infectious diseases and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. To maintain certification of a local public health district, County Health Department's are required to provide at a minimum: Communicable Disease Control and Investigation, also Inspection and Enforcement of the Food Safety Codes, Private Sewage Codes and Potable Water Systems.
