How To Become A Notary Public:

You must contact the Illinois Secretary of State's Office, Index Department, Notary Section, 111 East Monroe, Springfield, Illinois 62756. The County Clerk will receive your Notary Public Commission when processed by the Secretary of State, inform you when it is received, and keep an official public record.

Where To Obtain Your Notary Public Commission:

You will receive a letter from the County Clerk's Office informing you that your Notary Commission has arrived. Bring that letter and the $5 certificate fee to the Montgomery County Clerk's Office located on the first floor, Historic Courthouse, Hillsboro, or mail $10 to the Montgomery County Clerk, P.O. Box 595, Hillsboro, IL 62049, and your commission will be mailed to you.
